Creating Tools and Time for Kindness
This was another challenging week for me to get in those random acts of kindness. The crazy thing is that I know completing the RAOK (Random Acts of Kindness) makes me feel great and actually lifts me up, but when I'm busy with life it os really hard to fit them in.
I guess this isn't the only area of life in which we know something is good for us, yet we still don't do it. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I think that being busy can really be the rival of some of the best things in life!
This week I took a few moments to send a couple of texts to people I haven't connected with in a while just to let them know I was thinking of them, I wrote some little encouraging notes for my family members and left them in random spots for them to find, and I paid for the person's order behind me in the Tim Horton's 'drive thru.' I also continues with some extra walks and play time for the neighbours dog while they are away.
I've been making some good progress on my final project this week. I came across more clinical research on serotonin, oxytocin, nitric oxide, and cortisol. These are all chemicals altered within our body when we participate in random acts of kindness. The facts are pretty incredible and I have to say that from my own personal experiences over the past 4 weeks I can support that this is a reality! I included more info about this research in my recent TED TALK assignment if you are interested in learning more about all of this. Here is the link to that video https://youtu.be/gRdMJnryPZg,
I'm working on a kindness challenge as my final project. I want this to include a goal sheet for 5-7 days of kindness, a suggestion sheet on various random acts of kindness, a resource sheet on why random acts of kindness are important to our physical and mental health (sharing the facts), and a daily log sheet to keep participants accountable, but also to record their feelings each day prior to their kindness act and after completing the act. Below are 2 of the templates I've begun to work with and the content I have included in them so far. My goal is to complete all of these components as mentioned above as my final project for submission nest week!
